As a professional makeup artist or beauty practitioner, the product in your kit or in your salon will be used many, many times more than personal beauty and makeup products and, therefore, the shelf life for professional products for certain items will be shorter than recommend dates simply because of the risk of cross-contamination and the fact that bacteria from air is getting to the products much more than it would for personal use. If you practise SAFE BEAUTY stringently and are not double dipping and, therefore, not contaminating your products, they will last longer. It's common sense really.
